The two methods
Fat transfer
Fat is harvested by liposuction from the abdomen, flanks or thighs, processed and re-injected into the buttocks. The method has a double benefit: the waist becomes slimmer and the buttocks gain volume. Part of the fat is reabsorbed in the first months. It suits people with enough fat in the donor areas.
The technique known as the “BBL” (Brazilian Butt Lift) has been linked internationally to a rare but serious risk of fat embolism when fat is injected into the muscle. For this reason, fat is injected only into the tissue under the skin, never into the muscle, and volumes are set by safety, not by trends.
Gluteal implants
Solid silicone implants designed for the buttocks are placed through incisions in the cleft between the buttocks, usually within the muscle or under its fascia. They are an option for slim people who do not have enough fat for a transfer.
Who it is for
- people with flat buttocks or volume lost after weight loss;
- those with asymmetric buttocks;
- healthy people with a stable weight who understand the risks and the recovery period.
Recovery
- 2–3 weeks: avoid sitting on your buttocks, or use a special cushion as instructed.
- Compression garments: 4–6 weeks.
- Sport: after 6–8 weeks.
- Final result: after 3–6 months.
Risks and things to know
- fat reabsorption, asymmetry, irregularities;
- seroma or infection, especially with implants;
- implant displacement;
- fat embolism, rare but serious, prevented by injecting superficially.
Results vary from one patient to another.
